Choose, Phoenix or Ash

Divorce is like dying.

Who you were vanishes,

Like wedding photos,

Meaningful,

Then,

Just as quickly,

Irrelevant.

Nothing is the same.

If you’re very lucky,

Or very brave,

Or very resilient,

You pick up your shattered self,

Piece by piece, until you can stand,

Finding a way,

To make it all work,

And one day,

You’re suddenly alive,

Really alive,

Eating and laughing,

Reversing grief’s,

Wraithlike features,

Unfolding into…

You – Now.

As opposed to, You – Before;

Personal resurrection,

Baptized in pain.

Death can happen,

A million different ways,

It’s just that sometimes,

We die,

While living.

We only have two options,

When faced with adversity –

Grow or break.
